Refrigerated shipping containers are the ideal way to move and store goods that depend on reliable, temperature-controlled conditions. When you are shipping or storing meat, cheese, dairy, or seafood, a refrigerated container, also known as a 'reefer', is an absolute must-have. Fruits, flowers, and many vegetables likewise need a steady temperature to reach their destination in the best possible condition, although they may only call for an insulated container; it really comes down to the product, how far you are shipping, and how long the trip takes.

These containers come in mechanically refrigerated or non-operational refrigerated (NOR) configurations. At Port Shipping Containers, our mechanically refrigerated containers require a power source or generator on the container, truck, or train used to transport them. Non-operational refrigerated containers are decommissioned reefers that have usually had their motors removed and are sold as insulated containers, which work well for holding contents at a steady ambient temperature.

A refrigerated container is not just for shipping goods. Mechanically refrigerated units can also serve as a mobile cool-room on worksites, mine sites, construction sites, film sites, festival sites, catering sites, and large functions, anywhere a portable refrigeration solution is needed.

Refrigerated containers are offered in 20 foot and 40 foot sizes and share the same external dimensions as general purpose containers, though the interior space is smaller because of the refrigeration unit and ventilation requirements. At Port Shipping Containers we offer them for sale or hire in 3 phase 20 foot and 40 foot sizes with variable temperature control that keeps goods between +25° C and -25° C, and we also stock single phase units.

For the 20' refrigerated container, the inside cubic capacity is 28.3 m3, the max gross weight is 22,111 kg, and the tare weight is 3,290 kg; for the 40' refrigerated container, the inside cubic capacity is 57.8 m3, the max gross weight is 26,120 kg, and the tare weight is 4,360 kg. Dimensionally, the 20' refrigerated external size is 6.06 m (20') long, 2.44 m (8') wide, and 2.90 m (9'6") high, with an internal size of 5.43 m long, 2.28 m wide, and 2.26 m high. The 40' refrigerated external size is 12.19 m (40') long, 2.44 m (8') wide, and 2.90 m (9'6") high, with an internal size of 11.49 m long, 2.27 m wide, and 2.20 m high. Because keeping goods frozen, chilled, or held at an exact temperature is critical, buying or hiring from a reputable, experienced company matters. At Port Shipping Containers, our high-quality refrigerated containers are inspected and pre-tripped before delivery, and we offer a breakdown service in major metro areas in the unlikely event it is needed.
